Charging problems with ipod nano

Hope someone can help.
Last week I got drenched from head to foot whilst standing at the side of the road by a driver speeding through a puddle. My ipod was in my pocket and also got drenched, it stopped working straight away but when I got home a few minutes later it seemed fine.
I have a docking station/speaker by the side of my bed which I use to charge it. Last night I noticed the battery was almost dead and it said "attach to power supply" or something, so I assumed the docking station was maybe faulty and charged it up this morning for about 1/2 hour on my PC, which was enough to get me music for my walk to work.
At work I keep a mains charger so I thought I would give it a full charge, however, I'm now getting a message which says "charging not supported for this device".
So I'm thinking the ipod itself is faulty now, maybe due to getting wet? Although it seems to charge from the PC with no problems.
Any ideas?
