Have Dell sent the wrong processor?

I've just had an E521 delivered with (supposedly) an AMD 64 X2 3800 processor, 2.00 Ghz.

However the system information in System Properties says 1.00Ghz!

Am I being dumb? I'm not the techiest person in the world.....

may be wrong on this but i thought AMD Processors were faster than intel ones even though they have a lower speed? and that the 2Ghz stated is what it would be in the equivlent Intel Pentium Processor, thats what i thought although i may be wrong :)

See what PCwizard tells you about your system.

  • This is probably due to the AMD Cool 'n' Quiet technology where the system will dynamically clock the processor anywhere from 1.0 GHz up to the maximum 2.0 GHz.

To check the actual processor, click Start - Run - type msinfo32 and click OK. What does it say for Processor in System Summary?

If you run Belarc http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html It will display all the components in your PC. Its free and safe to use.

    Chippy,

For Processor it says - "x86 Family 15 model 75 stepping 2 Authntic AMD~2004Mhz" and it's said twice!

I guess the bold means it is a 2 Ghz after all?

Thanks to the others but it ain't hooked up to t'internet yet!

  • Yes, you're OK! Panic over :)

PS - the processor is listed twice because the AMD 64 X2 is a dual-core processor - 2 CPUs on one chip.
