how many credit cards should I apply??

my MBNA 0% purchase is coming to an end and I have applied for a BT card, I've never done a BT before and was wondering is one enough or should I apply for another as a backup plan in case this gets declined?? But I dont want this to affect my credit file.

Thanks in advanced

You need one card that matches the amount of debt that you have on your MBNA card. However, you may get a low credit limit and need a second card in order to transfer the total debt. It depends what credit limits you get and whether or not you get a card in the first place.
But I dont want this to affect my credit file.
Then pay off the debt and don't apply for another card. I am being deliberately blunt to make the point that any credit card application will leave a footprint on your credit file whether you like it or not.

If you also said that your MBNA card is nearing its promo period, how long?
You should give enough time to look for another card I would say 6-8 weeks.
    Good luck.
