Reception Meal & Menu Question

  • As a guest I'd be happy with any food provided (well almost - I did once starve at a wedding where we only got a cup of tea and a biscuit from early afternoon until midnight!

 OMG! I was worried that having our ceremony at 3.30pm, wedding breakfast at 5.30pm and buffet at 8pm was leaving it too long for people!

I could never have lasted that long at a wedding without food! Genuinely Shocked! :o
Married My Best Friend & Soulmate on 21st July 11! So happy to be Mrs Kyle!:heart2:
  • The couple were young and (I think) paying for it themselves - so it was understandable and there were no hard feelings from anyone...I just wishes they had had some help to think through their timescales and save our rumbling tums! If we had known it would have been worth driving to find a shop and then taking turns to sneak out for sandwiches in the car...we just kept thinking there would be some food soon...but nothing came!

I went to a wedding once, in the middle of nowhere.

Ceremony was early afternoon. Only thing available to eat were nuts at the bar.

Evening buffet came out, went to get something to eat and it had all gone.

I was absolutely rat arrsed that night with lack of food

They invited over 100 people too. Looked good on the pics, ceremony room was packed, but come on, we could have invited 150 to the daytime if we didn't have to feed anyone!
Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...
  • Here is what we have picked so far off the menu but have not told the venue yet until we have a 2nd meeting with them and is when am going to ask about a good old english buffet.

    Starter
    Soup of the Day
    £4 Per Head

    Main Course
Roasted turkey, candied sweet potato, cranberry jus all served with seasonal vegetables & potatoes
    £11 Per head

    Desert
    Wedding Cake

    Total £15 per head (50 Guests = £750)

Have just checked the menu they gave us for weddings and it does list the following.

    Carved Buffet

    Roast Sirloin of Beef
    Roast Local Turkey
    Home-baked Ham
    Fresh Poached Salmon

Carved for you by our Chef & served with
    coleslaw, rice salad, Waldorf salad,
    mixed salad & new potatoes

    Coffee & Mints

    £17 Per Head (50 Guests = £850) + £200 for Starters

I am not keen on the Coleslaw, Rice Salad etc on the above cavery menu. Wonder if they will do veg instead but for a cheaper price LOL.
  • we are doing a hot carvery buffet for our wedding in march, we are having the following since im a fussy eater and prefer plain foods.

starters: smoked salmon & brown bread or veg soup

main: (this is where the buffet option starts) turkey joint, beef joint, side of salmon and gammon i think, we are hten doing traditional roast veg and jacket potatos. there will be a nut roast for the vegetarians who are attending.

Pudding: defo profitteroles and whatever else the venue suggests.

in the evenign we are doing another buffet but this time its a cold buffet and we are having vegetable samosas, samosas, chicken satay, sandwiches, sausage rolls, crudites (i think thats what they are called :rotfl:) basically posh party food.

i think you cant go wrong with a carvery type meal as just about everyone likes a carvery or will eat it without fuss.
  • We are also supplying a finger buffet in the evening as well.

Problem with the above cavery price they have on there menu is it will make the food over budget.

Do you think its to cheeky to ask if they can do a cavery for the same price as the mains

If you don't ask you don't get. :)

I think there would be less prep involved if you had veg instead of coleslaw, rice salad etc (assuming they make their own) so maybe they will do it cheaper.

I think if you say this is our budget but we'd like more of a cavery option, what can you do, they should be able to come up with something for you.

  • Im getting married 30th April and our venue has agreed we can have a couple of different choices.
Ive made some menu's to go out with the invites, with a choice of 2 starters/3 mains/2 desserts, so when guests rsvp they can include the completed menu so the chef will know exactly how much to cook.

  • We had this idea as well and wanted to pick 3 of each but they still said it cannot be done .
