    No.
No return policy: therefore buyer could request payment of, say, £10 for special delivery to return. Seller either refuses (if so buyer opens snad case and wins) or coughs up the tenner - which may or may not result in return of said trainers. Either way - seller loses.
Seller return policies are most definitely meaningful - you must have one or expect to lose against the buyer if they claim to be unhappy.

    Doesn't work like that.

Paypal do not require the seller to reimburse return postage, that would be a matter for small claims court. So as above, buyer claims SNAD, if paypal find in his favour then buyer needs to prove item has been sent back and received (a refused delivery is still OK) then paypal refund. If buyer does not return the goods paypal find for the seller.

Soolin, I hate to say you're wrong, like, but exactly the same scenario happened to me. Buyer wasn't happy (even though the item description was completely without fault, unlike the seller in OP's link), requested I send funds for return shipment costs. I refused (on the grounds that I had done nothing wrong - suspected a scammer), he put in a SNAD - I lost. The reason was that I never specified in my return policy who precisely was liable for return shipment costs. I just said I will refund in full upon return of item.
    Not good enough.
If you follow the seller tips links they advise that sellers specify precisely who is liable for return costs in the return policy. E.g:- "buyer must pay full shipping costs for return of item". Without this they will find for the buyer. As I have learnt to my cost! Alternatively you pay it and wonder if you'll get your item back or just lose that money (and perhaps get a neg into the bargain!).
Other than that you can specify no returns policy, but if there are errors/discrepancies in the listing (as in the OP's one above), again they will find for the buyer if the buyer claims snad. Lost money, lost item, after all that effort!:D:p
  • Your case sounds slightly odd worbikeman as it contradicts pretty much every other experience I've seen posted on these boards.

    You miss the point.

I don't disagree that a seller should pay return postage if item is SNAD, however it cannot be enforced and paypal will not refund in a simple case of SNAD until buyer can prove the item is back with seller. They cannot take th emoney for the return from the seller, al paypal can grab is the original amount.

I agree that there have bene some odd 'no guilt' refunds by ebay, but even then the issue is not the refunding of return postage.

    They just did.
Ebay have refunded the buyer (from my bank account since PP account was empty at the time) the full amount. I have received no returned item nor have I been asked if I have received it. Imo the buyer never had any intention of returning it but knew a loophole and exploited it. But as you say, surely the buyer must return the item before refund is (automatically) issued:huh: I've lost my item and lost my money without doing anything wrong! Caveat vendor!
I'm assuming the reason for the adjudication because that was the jist of the emails between buyer-me. I've broken no rules, had no communication from ebay/paypal, other than the obligatory questionnaire about what I thought of the outcome of their decision:rotfl:
  • that's just awfull!

    eBay can be horrid sometimes.

Worbikeman, I don't think theree is a loophole, and as none of us have heard of a loophole regarding failing to have a return policy, I doubt your buyer did either. You do say you're assuming that's the reason ebay refunded.

As Soolin says, there have been a spate of odd guilt refunds lately where ebay pacify the buyer with a refund for no good reason.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

That's ok as long as that all it is. As it happens it was a small financial loss - put down to experience (but banks will charge if you go over by a penny so the money is irrelevant). If I did summink wrong I need to know so I can prevent it happening in the future when it might be more than a small loss iykwim:D
