Had afternoon tea at The Berkley, Lonon at New Year, can highly reccommend it, if the Ritz is unavailable.

The Ritz does tend to get booked up as soon as dates become available and I don't believe there is another route to book.

Have a look at The Tea Guild list of London hotels that have received their Award of Excellence. The Ritz is one but there are 16 in total; all would be good for afternoon tea for a treat:

Alternatively, if your friend is set on The Ritz, book for after her birthday and make up a nice voucher telling her the plan. She'll love looking forward to it. :) And The Ritz is right next to Green Park which is nice to walk through to Buckingham Palace for some fresh air after all the food. :)

My Ritz tip - the sandwiches are decent but they're still just sliced bread with ham, cheese etc in. Have a few but save your appetite for the cakes which are brought round afterwards (it's not all served up at once). ;)

    Try here: http://www.afternoontea.co.uk/

If it doesn't have to be the Ritz, the Tea Guild named the Langham as the best place for afternoon tea in London last year so that might be worth a look. Or the Savoy is nice and central (just a few minutes walk from Charing Cross station). That website also has lots of offers as well, including for the Waldorf and the Langham - the Waldorf is currently doing a deal for a historic tour of the hotel followed by afternoon tea and rose prosecco for £30 each and has Fridays and Saturdays available in March.

ETA: That site is offering the 12th March at 5.30pm at the Ritz if that suits you: http://www.afternoontea.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2&Itemid=3

I have done both, and preferred the Berkley. The pret a Porter tea is unique, but the ordinary one is better value for money.

The Ritz is very staid, and they allow no photographs, which as you usually go for a special occasion and want a momento is a bit off imo.
  • fortnum and mason do a nice afternoon tea, also the national portrait gallery resturant has a lovely one with amazing views over london

Apologies for waking up an old thread, but i wondered if anyone has actually used afternoontea.co.uk?

I booked a 2 4 £15 tea deal at the Liverpool Hilton through them, the Hilton has no record of the booking, plus the email address afternoontea gave for the Hilton was wrong!

I'm unsure if its a genuine site, although you don't part with cash untill you go the hotel itself

i realise this is an old thread but as someone else bumped it, in case anyone else needs to know...they do allow photographs at the ritz, and the waiters will take pictures for you, i went in april last year and he took 2 pictures of us at our table, have a look at my post i put in the competition forum (i won 1 night, breakfast, manicure and afternoon tea there)

here are some pictures from my stay in london at...

they were absolutely fine and we were not the only people taking pictures. also they said you have to book at least 12 weeks before you want to go, especially in popular times

There's always Harrods, Fortnum's, The Savoy or Claridge's.

Or even better, breakfast at The Savoy, lunch at Harrods, afternoon tea at Fortnum's and dinner at Claridge's. :)
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark
