(Moved in beginning of March - my account was active from mid April) Have been paying £38 per month since then and have been in credit each quarter (after submitting my meter readings when required)
I fully expected to owe some money having used more energy over the winter months. However the debits have gone up to £70 per month! It says on my bill that my tariff ends in May so I can see why it's increased to that amount to pay off what I (supposedly) owe to them which according to it is almost £300!
The thing I'm having trouble with is that I live on my own in a small one bed flat, limit my gas usage to between 4 and 6 hours a day no matter what the temperature is, my temperature settings on the boiler are nowhere close to being up full and I also spend at least 3 nights a week at my partners (often more) when all my timers etc get switched off completely.
I have no idea how it's come to £316's worth of gas in 3 months considering all this when others I've spoken to have had their central heating on all day long at some points during the winter to heat a whole 3 bedroomed house with a small family occupying it.
I am going to enquire about getting someone to come and check that my meter is working properly and to see if it's even the right one for my flat and that I'm not paying for my whole building's usage too! (3 flats) My paper bill also states that my last bill was estimated when in fact it was read by both me and the meter reader. (I was e mailed to remind me so I submitted it then the next day the meter reader came to read it himself)
Let us deal with the last bill which states it was based on an estimated meter reading. That you and the meter reader gave a reading, doesn't mean it was used.
These matters are all dealt with by 'The Computer'(and untouched by human hand!) and it will sometimes disregard the reading if it 'thinks' the reading is wrong.
The temperature settings on the boiler do not affect consumption, just how hot the water in the CH system gets. What matters is how warm you get the flat.
£316 in 3 months through a very cold winter is high but not exceptionally high - it largely depends on how well your flat is insulated and how warm it is kept.
If you have your meter checked and it turns out to be OK(they usually do) you will have to pay - normally between £60 and £80.0 -
It may be an idea to look at adding EnergySmart to you BG plan if you haven't already. It gives you the option to pay for actual usage each month by submitting a meter reading online/text or you can pay a fixed amount DD.Freebies Received: Supersavvyme bag, Olay moisturiser, Barbara Daly/Tesco Mascara, Seeds of Change Choccie, Yorkshire Tea Kenyan teabags, Tesco mobile sim cards x 2.
