Well Done Cardiff!

I'm all too quick to moan about dishonest people, scammers, and generally nasty pieces of work. However, hearty praise and deserving pats on backs to the people (in particular a person) of Cardiff.

My student daughter emailed me today to say she had lost her purse last night. Money, student ID, driver's licence etc all inside (fortunately not her bank card). I gave her all the motherly advice (well lecture about growing up and acting like a responsible adult etc etc) and told her she would have to pay for the replacement ID and licence herself.

Less than 30 seconds after replying to her the email I received a call from Cardiff Police Station to say that somebody had just handed DD's purse in - fully intact including the cash!

Warms the cockles of your heart!:j

That's brilliant and wonderful to hear that there are still people out there who aren't on the take. I know there are a lot of people say they would do something but until they find themselves in that situation they'll never know for sure.

I found a purse on the bus when I was 18 with a few hundred quid in it, I was skint at the time and for a brief moment didn't know what to do. I came to the conclusion that it wasn't mine and might belong someone as skint as me and really needs that money so took it to the police station. The police asked if they could give her my details as she wanted to give me a reward. I got a £5 book token for my honesty but more importantly I had a great feeling that i'd been honest and done a good deed.

I'm a great believer of if you do something good for someone then someone will do good for you but if you do something bad to someone it'll always come back to bite you on the bum :)

Well done hoyles! I told my DD to see if she could find out who handed her purse in and to make sure she either wrote, or phoned, to thank them.

All too often this forum is full of complaints and gripes - maybe we should all post some good occurances now and again.

I had the same thing happen to me a couple of months ago. I thought my purse was lost forever until I got a letter from the police advising it had been handed in. The kind person who did it didn't leave their details though so I couldn't sent them a big box of chocs like I wanted to!

I handed a wallet in once...only had 20 odd pounds in it but the person whos wallet it was contacted me to say thanks and what could he give me as a thank you...I told him to buy me a scratch card and it won £1500.

Well actually I just made that up but it would have been nice.

Really I was just accused of stealing it and locked in a cell for 12 hours........

Well i wasnt ive never even found a wallet....

I think we all need to share stories of nice things happening. Acts of kindness, honesty, thoughtfulness etc.

  • Lucky her. I think most people are still decent but some scumbags would have kept it.
