Its fine to ask. Sounds like we gave you the answer you expected (and maybe even hoped for?) Hopefully your son will realise he stands no chance and will start trying to get some savings together. Perhaps its worth saying to him that if the high street banks turn him down the worst thing he could do is start looking at subprime lenders and brokers that charge fees to find loans (because they won't find the loan they promise). I say this because a lot of people do go down this route and lose money expecting to get loans that never materialise.
Oh and you haven't caused trouble between people, if it wasn't this post it
would only be another people would find to disagree about!:o
