Teenage car insurance
My daughter could be called a bit geeky, she is at uni. but lives a home, and has landed a dream job for 20 hrs a week in a famous department store which has very poor public transport links. She needs a car to get to work. She is 18, has had a licence for nearly a year , passed first time and has pass plus, and the lowest quote for car insurance we have had is £5000 for a 1 ltr Yaris worth £1500, help! She will have to give up work if we can't get her there. I have tried everywhere and it seems to be getting more expensive by the day. What's going on?

About 10-years ago when I started driving, most of my quotes were around £2,000, although eventually I found one for £940. You really have to shop around. The fact that she passed first time is irrelevant. Pass Plus should knock a little bit off the premium though. I'd avoid comparison websites in this instance, as I'd imagine that's where the £5,000 came from! Shop around and I'd imagine you'll get it to nearer £1,500 for the year. If you want it cheaper still, it might be worth you insuring the car in your name, and having your Daughter as a named driver, just make sure you tell the insurers she'll be using the car on a daily basis. Just in case there's some sort of clause in the policy.0

dont go near that route it is fraught with poss complications(fronting)
are you trying quotes for fully comp as they sometimes work cheaper, also try adding your wife or yourself as extra driverI

Why, it's quite legal? Unless things have changed in recent years, I fail to see what complications there could be.hartcjhart wrote: »[/COLOR]

Thanks, will re-do online applications on the fully comp basis and try adding myself as a named driver. For some reason I thought that would make it more expensive.0

A policy holder should be doing the majority of the driving compared to any/all named drivers. The only exception I know of is married couples were they are happy for 40/60 or even 30/70.Why, it's quite legal? Better off adding mum or dad as a named driver on her policy.

One of lads (21yrs) passed his test in October, cheapest insurance was £1960 + £40 for using Credit Card. Citroen AX 1Ltr, 16 years old worth £400.
His elder brother (23 yrs) payed £1200 on his renewal in June then he moved to Manchester. He informed his insurance company and they said thank you, that will be ANOTHER £600.
I wish I could say it was a joke but it wasn't.0 -
try prudential or national farmers union-my daughters with the pru and had been since she passed at 17 they were by far the cheapest quote
and domeone recntly told me the NFU are cheap too (national farmers union)
and theres always quinn insurance
girls usually get quotes much less than boys (up to 50% less) due to stats showing girls are a lower risk-so your 5k quote seems very higheven god cant change the past-no matter how many times i cryfor levi, leo, smudge and arfa:A my angels0 -
£5k, are you sure? Where have you looked? When I was 19 I was getting £3k, and I'm male, so my premiums should be much higher. I also lived in a dodgy place.0

I don't know what 'famous' store you are talking about, but what is the parking like there? The one I was thinking about parking is horrendously expensive and as rare as hens teeth
No point buying a car if she can't park or the parking is astronomical.0
