Why can't I put more than 1GB of music on my 2GB SD card

Options
Trying to put music on a 2GB SD card to use in the car. Sorted out my playlist and the card holds 1.83GB of data and the playlist is 1.6GB, yet when I drag and drop the playlist it only allows me to put 132 songs on, or 0.98GB.

I've tried dragging all the playlist, parts of it, single songs at a time, but it only ever lets me do 0.98GB. And it's not the card at fault, I've tried it on 2 other 2GB cards. I've also formatted the cards.

All SD cards are brand names Sandisk and Kingston.

Any help?

My first thought would have been fake cards, as that's how they show. Some tricky formatting shows the capacity you expect, but when you actually put files on there, they only go up to the actual capacity.
Not so sure though as you have different makes, are they from a mainstream supplier ?
What does it show for capacity used/free if you right click on the drive and select properties

Make sure you format with FAT32 not FAT16 as FAT16 has limits as to the number of entries in the root folder.

Yes, was just thinking about that, 128 sounds familiar - although you could create folders.

When opening the SD card (presumably in explorer) click on "show hidden files" (XP - in Explorer, Tools/Options/View, W7 - Start/Control Panel/Appearance & Personalisation/Folder Options/View Tab/Advanced Settings/Show hidden files and folders click OK. If you have copied and deleted files from the card before you may well have hidden trash folders that need to be got rid of.

You can either choose to delete the now un-hidden hidden files or better still reformat the card in FAT32. This will make sure the files disappear.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

Then i suggest try copying a large block of files of about 1.5 gb to the card to see how full it gets .

Bit pointless selling fake USED cards .

Ebay and fake flash memory memory cards etc go together like the song says .

I bought a fake 8 GB one - it allowed files to be partially overwritten, and thus corrupted.
When I complained, the seller gave me a refund, no quibble!

What normally happens with fake cards is that the seller is china often with a HK site . Sell loads of cards string out the replies on returns .
Then do a midnight flit . Open another site the next day .
Thankfully now EBay no longer leave the user whistling for the money and tell you no refund as no money in the sellers account .
