Hi everyone
I have an IKEA Beech MDF Bookcase. Can I stain this to an Oak Colour and what would I need to do, ie do I have to take of original stain first etc.
Thanks for any advice.

you cant stain it with wood stain, only paint it.
use the correct primer first. then itll just be an oak color, no wood effect.
hardly worth it. buy another bookcase.Get some gorm.0 -

You used to be able to buy Paint n grain stuff (probably still can) which gave a wood effect finish, but to be hobest as you say personally I wouldn't bother as it will always look like an effect.
I would paint it white or a colour to match/contrast your room0 -
Even if it was a genuine Beech veneer I would say no, as the veneer they use is so thin, as soon as you start sanding it, you'll go through to the bare MDF

defiantly not worth it, as any stain will not stick, assuming of course that it is beech effect 9.e. plastic)and not veneer.0
