Hi, I've not actually got an allergy to milk, but at the moment I follow a lactose free diet for other health reasons.
Rice Milk is nice for cerial, if you can find one without milk in.
I don't like the soya products nor false cheese. Nasty stuff.
However, I've never really found the need to buy Free From foods, apart from Rice Milk, as most foods can be found without milk in, its just a question of reading the labels. Easy to spot now as they all have allergy information on them.
You might have to buy special Tom Ketchup if you use this, as most of this has milk in.
Jaffa Cakes and Bourbons don't usually but do check.
A few of the Green and Blacks Choc dosn't either.
These no need to assume that all chocolate has milk in, just because Dairy Milk does

OMG!!!! :eek:Of all the things she has i didnt even think to check that. Im so glad i started this thread because if i hadnt i would have had no idea. Thanks so much for mentioning this xxxx
No, you don't, I wouldn't have thought of that if I hadn't have read every single label.
Don't worry though, it does make you feel like you are taking control for once, rather than being controlled by the restrictions.0 -
Great thread btw
. Ive been lactose intolerant for nearly 6 years and find i only need to buy Rice Dream for my tea, and i use oatly milk for cereals. I used to eat Green and Blacks choc (mint one) but can't believe how much its gone up!!, For biscuits i usually shop in Asda so choc borbons, oaty biscuits or their own banana cake/angel cake if i need a sugar fix!!.
hth, I do read every label if i want to try something new but i dont buy many speciality foods now

For dairy, i buy lactofree cheese often 1.50 in asda/sains, Pure sunflower (tried Sains own not that nice) and I make my own Easiyo yoghurts0 -
I would recommend Almond Milk. It's gorgeous but it is quite expensive. I wait until it's on special at Holland and Barratt and then stock up on it (lasts forever if kept unopened!).MFW 2019 #61: £13,936.60/£20,0000

Hi
Great thread! My dd also has a severe dairy/egg allergy. There are lots of equivalent dairy free options out there without always having to buy from the expensive 'free from' range. Like a pp said you just have to read all the labels! Lots of shops own 'basics' brands are dairy free.- We use Asda's soya milk 88p
- Most breads are dairy free.
- Asda's own soya yoghurts as mentioned earlier
- Asda SP digestive, tea, bourbon and fruit shortie biscuits.
- Tesco's basic victoria sponge cake mix is good and works without adding egg. 22p
- Heinz tomato sauce has no milk
- Pure marg or Vitalite
- Stork for baking
- Cadbury's drinking chocolate powder for mixing with soya milk or in cakes?
- Holland and Barrett have various soya cheeses. I stock up when they have the buy 1 get one half price.
- Swedish Glace vanilla ice cream £2ish from sainsburys, asda and tesco. Sainsburys have choc, strawberry an dvanilla dairy free ice cream at £3.99 for a small tub.

I'd forgotten about Swedish Glaze Ice Cream, that really is nice. My OH's Dad gave that the thumbs up, he generally has Ice Cream everyday, so he should know.0
