It's all very well assuming that a lender is a 'bottom feeder' as you so eloquently put it, but did you intend to insult the OP at the same time on the basis that you clearly assume that he/she is one of the 'bottoms' being fed on?

I meant no offence to the OP and maybe you're jumping the gun? If the OP is on his fifth potential lender and said lender is asking for bank statements I think it's safe to assume all's not well in the state of Denmark?

Also, with the mention of Wonga, missed payments and the OP clearly being concerned, I can use my almost Holmes style powers to deduce the facts.

  • If its the forth or fifth lender the dealer has tried it will not be one of the mainstream finance houses such as Santander, Blackhorse etc... (they will always try these first as they offer the best rates, but with harder acceptance of course), so the OP should be very careful to look at the APR being offered by the alternative finance company found - generally speaking, in the land of car finance, it is only the adverse lenders who want copies of bank statements, proof of affordability etc... and they will hit you with a stupid APR to boot.

    Xmas Saver!
They will want the statements for a few reasons, they need to prove affordability and also make sure your not telling porkie pies. Give them both sets and explain what you do with the funds. Be upfront about the wonga money and tell them why - waiting on a bonus, needed it for xmas etc.

It is not only the adverse lenders who want bank statements etc. If you think about it, the better the lender, the more info they want, so they can make a good lending decision and not lose money, so they can keep rates down to attract the better lenders, so they don't lose as much money etc. etc.
