OK, have got the following on its way to me:

I want to replace the stock radio unit with the above unit. Then want to tidily wire the two aux-outs to the two monitors on the back of the rear headrests.

Have I got everything I need to do the job? :-)

It will be my first ICE install so will learn as I go along, but am determined to do it all myself.

I know this may be frowned upon, but I will also be earthing the parking brake cable to the back of the unit so the kids can watch DVDs in the back when driving (no point having it otherwise). May conjour up some sort of cover for the headunit display to make it more legal.

The only thing I can unsure about is how replacing this will affect the digital display in the Picasso. Am assuming it will no longer show radio channel - will it affect any other parts of the display? Would be nice for it to work, but not a big issue. Am guessing I'd need a citroen dealer to programme it to do that?

Also - should the steering wheel controls (not on a stalk, on the actual wheel) still work?

Thanks in advance for any help!

sorry you cant code aftermarket products to a manufacters part.

the display will only do date and time no radio station output.

the dvd player will play dvds whilst driving if you dont connect the handbrake wire wich is a distraction, so i advise to connect it so it turns the player to the rear screens.

wireing these things in can be fiddly and time consuming, sometimes taking some parts of the dash out to sort out wiring room.

my advice would be to wire the rear screens from the back of the dash down the centre of the car to the under side of the seats allot of people tare up the rubber seals for the doors for wiring but this can leave the seal not quit tight and cause leaks to the car.

there are a few video's on youtube that show you how to diy ICE instals like dvd and rear screens. some screens require you cut out the head rest and use a mount backing plate this only leaves you open to buying new head restraints when selling vehicle, or sell ICE with it.

    have fun good luck

Thought that may be the case. As long as the rest of the display still works I can live with not seeing the radio station on the cars display and using the headunit display instead. Although I may contact Citroen to see if they can code it to work ... although I suspect it will be a no with a non-branded aftermarket unit.

I was under the assumption that by connecting the back 2 monitors to the 2 aux out sockets of the head unit, they would receive the video signal from the DVD player as it played - so the DVD movie would be playing on the headunit screen and on the 2 back screens at the same time. A sort of streaming setup.

By connecting the handbrake wire, I would effectively stop it playing on all screens - is that not correct??

Sounds good advice. I think I would have done it down the centre anyway as the Picasso is quite roomy there so plenty of space to route the wires carefully. Happy to life the carpet if needed to totally hide it.

by connecting the handbrake wire the front dvd head unit screen will go off the rear ones will still play when the car is in motion. i recommend you do this ive had dvd head units they ARE a distraction and if found in a accident situation and a dvd is playing or seen to be played without that wire connected could land you in trouble with the law (driving with undue care and attention as to cause an accident, injury or death).

the mountable screens i suspect will need mounting in the way that you need to cut a hole in your headrests. i suggest you go to a scrappy and get a pair to cut rather than cut existing ones. follow a few youtube movies on cutting the foam out go too deep the screen wont mount properly, cut too shallow it wont sit in properly and vibration will cause it to loosen and fall out.

oh and get some sun visors for the rear window (if not tinted) i had people tail gate me to see what was being watched when i had a portable for the kids on the headrests.

If the back screens work, then super - happy to earth it to the handbrake properly :-)

My next obstacle is that the standard headrests in the front seats of the picasso have a hole in the centre. So I need to substitute them with some other headrests which dont have a hole - so they can be modified to fit the screens into. However, I obviously want to maintain the colour of the seats so they dont look too odd.

    hmm ...
