Voluntary Redundancy and Re-employment

I work for local government and may be taking voluntary redundancy. If I accept a new job to start immediately after my official leaving date, will that affect my redundancy? The new job will be with a private sector employer.

No, if your request for voluntary redundancy were accepted, in the case you describe your redundancy money would not be affected - simply because you are moving out of the public sector.
  • Hi

Many thanks for that. I have had so much differing information I have been worried about going for interviews. That has put my mind at rest. :T

You should also read the written details about your voluntary redundancy scheme. That should explain the situation and you can be certain of what some unknown person has suggested on a public forum. :)
  • Hi
iWork as a public health consultant (medical) for a pct in London. With the recent reorganization, the structures published for consultation did not have my post. At that time, the pct offered VR which I applied for and was supported by my line manager. The renumeration committee approved this using the pct VR guidance.

I got the approval letter and I sent my agreement and the date of last of working day after agreeing with my line manager. This was before the final structures were out which still did not have my job. On the 12th (2 weeks before the exit date), I was informed by my line manager that they are going to revoke the vr and going to reinstate my job.

Can they do this after sending the vr letter. I would be grateful if you could let me know where I legally stand on this.
    Thanks in advance

The idea is to try to avoid redundancy. I believe that while you are still employed an employer should do whatever they sensibly can to find work for its employees who otherwise face dismissal on the grounds of redundancy. I therefore think they are acting lawfully.

Given steps you may have taken in anticipation of redundancy, then you should negotiate with your employer to see if some allowance can be made for that.

Best wishes for your future as I understand the upheaval in PCT-land at the moment and the uncertainty over the next year or so in PH.
