Central heating installation...how many quotes to get?

Hello all
I am looking to get central heating installed as we've had a £380 electricity bill for 3 months with 2 storage heaters.
British Gas have given us a quote for over £5000 (5 radiators, boiler + installation) for our 2 bedroom house.
I've got another installer giving me a quote on tuesday but would like to know how many quotes should we get and how do we choose who to do the job?
Any advice appreciated.

Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)0

Do not go down the BG route, they are too expensive.
Where in the country are you?
Best to fit a Vaillant boiler or a Worchester Bosch.0 -

3 quotes seems to be the standard.0

Good morning: it depends on the individual RGI: however the boiler, for example, will have a manufacturer's warranty (terms and conditions apply)....example here.

I went with a local installer for my Worcester boiler, because he's accredited by them I got a five year warranty instead of the standard two year.0

Thank you. If I use someone from the HHIC website, does this mean that they have certain qualifications and/or experience and do they have to pay to be on the installer search?
Thanks0 -
Yes & yes.
I refused to pay when they chnged it from free, hence why you won't find me on there.
Too many organisations wanting our hard earned cash for nothing these days.
Stick to local recommendations.0 -

Good afternoon: RGIs listed on the Heating and Hot Water Industry Council website pay a small fee (hardly a budget buster) and have requisite qualifications. You can also find RGIs on the CIPHE website. If you can find a RGI recommended to you by a source trust, who is also a member of the CIPHE/HHIC and attends CPD/ manufacturer's training all the better.;)
