External dvd writer - mains powered

I have bought a Compaq netbook (CQ10-101SA) and really need an external drive so that I can create restore discs, back-ups etc. After viewing umpteen reviews & opinions, added to the fact that I would probably only use the writer whilst at home, I think I would be better off with a mains powered one, unfortunately the vast majority now seem to be USB powered, any ideas anyone? all suggestions gratefully received!
Cheers.
Cheers.

Sorry, Thanks for taking the time to reply, but it was an optical drive I was after, not a hard drive, thanks.0

Oh yeah sorry didn't read properly. What's wrong with USB powered - just wondering?0

USB powered works fine.
But if you're set on a mains powered one, it would almost certainly be a big chunky 5.25" one. USB powered ones are slim and compact. May have 2 USB plugs whereby one draws power.

I found the same problem, all i good ones i wanted were USB y connectors and no good due to nature of my usb ports. I am toying with a powered hub instead Misco have a 4 port one at about £14 and then I can use the y connector and other stuff in the 2 spares.
I found a mains one at play.com but the make got a crappy write-up.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy0
