Credit card benefits

Hello,

I have a credit card that only has a £500 limit from when I was a student. Now I earn £19500 and would like a bigger credit limit.

I'd pay it off in full every month and would like cashback/benefits.

I was attracted by the tesco and amex cards but my salary isn't big enough for the amex one and I was rejected from the tesco one.

CAn anyone suggest a good CC for me?

Thanks in advance

  • The Halifax Clarity gives you £5 per month for spending £300 a month!

I got that....but if you usually don't spend that much, then it can be false economy to force yourself to spend £300 just to get the fiver. You also need a Reward account to qualify, which I do recommend (or Ultimate Reward, which I don't recommend). Pay in £1000 each month (don't need to keep it there) and they give you £5 each month.

Try Barclaycard, which gives 1% cashback. Easier to get than Cap One. Amex isn't accepted in a lot of places anyway and the 5% is only for the first 3 months. That link doesn't show them but I found them on moneysupermarket

For how long have you been earning your £19,500?

Are you on the Electoral Roll?

Who do you bank with? And is your current account well managed?

Why were you declined by Tesco? Did you ask?

What credit history do you have, as detailed on your credit file? ie what did Tesco see when they made the credit search?

You do not need a reward current account to get the Halifax Clarity. A lot of people think credit cards and current accounts go hand in hand but they definitely do not most of the time. Anybody can aplpy and keep their current account where it is.

Cooperative do a cashback credit card -Member's card. You have to be a member but it is free of charge to sign up.

You do to get the Clarity Rewards card, which is what Deru (and yourself in the previous post) was referring to.

If you're not spending £300 a month, then cashback won't really be that much of a concern would it?

    ( @ £5 / month for a £300 spend you're 'only' talking £60 - or on a 'normal' average cashback CC, @ 1% that's only £36 )
