Getting a good deal on a car
Hi! I was wondering if anyone could give me a few pointers in getting a good deal buying a used car, maybe ex-demo, from a garage. I'm not very pushy, so is there a margin that the salesman expects to drop anyway, what should I not close the deal without getting, e.g full tank, tax etc? Any tips greatly appreciated!

Depends on the cars price and how much they paid for it. You can ask for anything you want. They will

You are buying a car, not a deal.
The most important thing is to choose the car that will be right for you.
You can then look around and see what that model and age is going for.
Generally, if you are paying cash for a nearly new car, you could expect a few hundred off the sticker price.
Most people who are happy with their cars couldn't tell you a few months later exactly what they paid.0 -
Research, research, research.
If I had a car priced at £10k and dropped the price by £2k and gave you a tank of fuel, would that be a good deal? Might be.
But what if the guy down the road is selling an identical car for £7.5k but will not haggle .

I have bought ex demo in the past. I found them good value and the ones concerned tended to be high spec. If you have an idea of the car you want have a look around the local dealer and see what they have as demonstrators. I even went into the garage once and asked when they would be selling one off. It wasn't due to be sold for about another month but they checked with head office and did a deal that day.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
