Blown Head Gasket...Prices?

I have a Peugeot 206, on a 54 plate. Unfortunately the head gasket is blown, and I'm not sure quite how bad, there is no smoke coming from the car but the engine oil has water in.

I also need the cam belts changing, and I've heard the only advantage with my situation is that they can be replaced at the same time.

What prices am I looking at for a new head gasket and cam belts?

I'm not going to an official Peugeot repair centre but a standard garage so I dont get fully ripped off.

Cheers

Have you had the tests to be sure the head gasket has gone.I have a 206 and thought mine had blown was getting a mayo coloured residue under oil filler cap.The garage said it was normal as it was only condensation from the car only doing short journeys. The cost of the timing belt will be around £150 or £200 with the water pump.Having mine done on tuesday.

My head gasket was around £300 on my Punto. No idea about the cambelt.
What is pi? Where did it come from?
  • Yeah I'm certain the head casket is gone, there was hardly any oil in the engine.

are you losing water?usually when the head gasket goes you will see lots of steam coming from the exhaust if its a water leak.or you will get oil in the water coolant bottle it its a oil leak.

Head gaskets can give different symptons.

When my Corsa's head gasket went my oil filler cap looked like this

There was lots of water coming out of the exhaust and it had a sweet smell to it. The head tank contained bits of broken head gasket too.

I didn't bother getting it fixed.

As for prices it depends what caused the head gasket to go and if the head needs skimming or not. It can be anything from £300 up to £1k depending on exactly what caused it.

The quotes for my old Corsa were around £600 for skimming, gasket and new chain.

The exhaust looked like this, and the water got worse and worse the longer the engine was run for. It got so bad towards the end you could put a bucket under the tailpipe and see the coolent.

Bodge job where they just replace the gasket, £300 or so inc cambelt. Proper job where they send the head off to be tested to see if its cracked or warped and have it skimmed, £400+
