A&L switch question

Following the final straw with the halifax, me and gf are planning to switch our accounts to A&L.

I have about 9 direct debits and 2 standing orders.

Do I open the account, inform my work then switch the direct debits etc?

I just want the switch to be smooth and not mess up with any payments

cheers

When you apply to A&L they will send you a pack which includes an authorisation form to switch your wages/salary and SO/DD's from your old account.

Everyone's experience of the A&L switching is different. My experience has been bad, it's taken them 3 months to get the majority of the DD's (I had 11) switched over, further they've just refused the TV licence DD and A&L were the one's that switched it over!!!!.

My advice for what it's worth is to contact each of your DD's and notify them of the change (give yourself plenty of time for the change over)

I would do the standing orders and contacting your employer yourself. Also keep a really close eye on whether direct debits take or not from the new account. If they don't get on to the companies immediately to get it sorted out.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
  • Id rather do the switching myself so I know where I stand. Is it possible to keep my salary going into the old account while I do the switching of the direct debits. Then when the switching is complete I can let my work know the new details?

Yes, you can decide when to tell your employer to use the new account as well as deciding which DD's switch and when.

  • I am also switching from Halifax to A&L, like you I will move my DDs and SOs myself. I'm going to move my wages from next month as it's too late for this month. To be safe I'm going to leave some money with Halifax until I'm sure my new account is running properly.

  • Dear all, just going through the process of switching myself. Please note, they do NOT promise to try to match your current o/d limit unless you use the switching service - so if you need a similar limit you have to go this route.

I sent in my switching details about 10 days ago. They've just confirmed that they've matched my current o'd limit in one letter, and then sent me another saying as I hadn't sent in the details of what I wanted to switch so they were cancelling it??!!

    Confused - you will be!!!:rotfl:

Surely that's the perfect outcome - you didn't want to use their switching service, did you?
  • LMAO You've got a good point there! but I hate inefficient services at the best of time and this does not reassure me that the left and right hand at A&L are on speaking terms! :rotfl: :rotfl: We'll see if I'm still LMAO when the switches go thru
