Excellent - thanks guys. I have remembered some more (think they may be specific to Ireland though)
A company called Wiltons Candy used to sell Macaroon bars, Mint Crisp & Kalipso bars. Have not seen them in years, will persevere and keep looking though!0 -
black bullets, cherry lips, sasparilla tables, cola cubes, wham bars... the list is endless lol0

Some of the supermarkets in their own brand range do some more traditional sweets (at a good price too). Things like toffees, cola cubes, dolly mixtures, midget gems and those chocolate buttons with the sugar strands on - Jazzies are they called? White mice etc. That might save you having to trek round all the sweet shops looking for things! Just put them in some recycled & decorated jam jars from home to make them look a little less shop-bought.0

My mum used to always talk about soor plooms, lucky tatties, sherbert straws and spangles as her favourites.:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0

Just remembered Love Hearts and Bazooka bubble gum. I was never allowed them as a child, and now at 55 I can't chew them for fear of dislodging my fillings and crowns
.
I'd love to see the finished hamper, would you post a photo please ?
Thanks xx0 -

OMG floral gums are still my fav sweets ever. Once my dad ordered me a giant jar from the sweet shop. I could eat them until I feel sick.
Not read all the posts but some fab ideas. There are lots of retro sweet shops online (sure someone has mentioned it already).
EDIT: Didn't see ebay mentioned so here are the links to two shops I have used. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/RETROSWEETS2008
