Expired MOT - when does new one start from?

My daughter bought her car last March. Getting ready to tax it for her at the end of this month - I could not find the MOT.

We mistakenly thought it had been don when the car was serviced in Feb last year - but having checked on the DVLA site we find it had expired last September!

Needless to say it is going in tomorrow (and it needs a new tyre) - but

a) having in error broken the law by driving without an MOT will there be any comeback from this when we get the new one done?
b) When will the new MOT start from?

Thanks

  • The new MOT will start from the date of test.If its not been picked up by ANPR or police when its been driven then chances are you will not hear anything about it as long as the road tax was valid.

I dont think there will be any comeback to be honest but not 100% sure, only the garage doing the MOT would know that it isnt MOTd
It is still legal to take it to a booked MOT but dont make any detours on the way, if the coppers stop you on a detour, then there could be repercussions.

The Mot would run from when it is carried out.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • If you haven't already been caught, I doubt you will get any comeback. As who is to say that the car hasn't been laid up off-road since the last MOT ran out. :)

A pity she also got her first PCN yesterday! (a real one, not one from Trumpton Council)

DVLA because there is no SORN notice.

    What?

It could've been taxed and "laid up off-road since the last MOT ran out", couldn't it?

How do you prove it was?

do you need to? Or does the CPS need to prove it's been used on the road without an MOT?

If its been taxed it would be ok as they would need to prove you used it on the road.
In the next couple of months any car that is not insured must have the tax surrendered and a sorn filled in.

sorry i deleted my last post i got confused
