New car?
Hi
I'm currently trying to weigh up whether I should be looking for a new car or not. Mine has done just over 120,000 miles. It's done very well so far, but it almost certainly needs a new exhaust. The MOT and service are coming up aswell as the tax. There is also a squeaking noise coming from it, which I have no idea what that is. I've been saving up for a new car for a little while as I knew my current car wouldn't last forever, so I'm wondering if I might be better off just getting a new car and not spending any more money on this one.
I really don't know that much about cars and scrapping, but what happens when you scrap a car, do you pay them? Or do they pay you? Or does nobody get paid?
Thankyou
Gwenx

Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending

usually at the moment scrap dealers will pay you. usually around £100-£200.
it might be better to advertise it on ebay honestly. scrap dealers do use ebay to buy cars from so the local ones will bid on yours up to usually around £100.
or if someone thinks they can fix it up cheaply enough they will pay a bit more and do so....work permit granted!0 -
Thanks goldspanners. I'm just looking at possible new cars and they have wma/mp3 readers...what does this mean? I'm not very technological
Does this mean I can plug my ipod in?

...Does this mean I can plug my ipod in?...
Yes, it's a small socket same as the one for the headphones on your iPod.
You will get far better sound if you buy a lead which plugs into the multi-pin socket on your iPod and into the car's socket at the other end.
Your original question is a difficult one, changing the car will always cost money, almost certainly a lot more than a few repairs on your old car.
The MoT is 'coming up' so it might be worth putting it in for that and getting a quote to do the exhaust, squeak and service.0 -
squeak and service can be less than £100.0

I'll buy your car for whatever the scrap man gives you plus a tenner! Buy seriously, don't bin a car because it needs a service and an exhaust! Your shiny new car will quickly enough be in the same state. My old car has had a terrible clanking noise from the suspension going over little bumps in the road. Couldn't find the source of the problem until recently, when it turned out to be a slightly worn link in the suspension. A £15 part. My car is now spot on, despite having done 112,000 miles and being 10 years old.Skip dipper and proud....0

No it may not, it maybe that the CD player can play cds with with mp3's on them, which is useful as a CD can hold about 100 mp3's.0 -

as huggy says, it might just be that the cd player can play mp3 discs.
if you want it to play your ipod at the very least you want it to have a 3.5mm aux socket. at the best you want a stereo with ipod compatible plugs so you can control your ipod through the stereo controls....work permit granted!0
