Budget planning question

I was just wondering.
Its coming towards the end of the year I've been reviewing my budget and planning for the year to come and the thought came to me - for personal finances what is the better way to structure a financial year?
What I mean is do those of you who plan ahead, do you plan across a calendar year (Jan-Dec) or a financial year (April to March)?
Does it matter? Is there any real difference between the two?
I'd be interested in your thoughts.

I do academic year for savings (I started it at university and I'm still using the same spreadsheet) but for spending I use calendar year. I just match part years off if I need to....
Financial year would be more sensible to do for my savings I suppose, but there you go......Indecision is the key to flexibility

Do you have a 'low' point in your year? Its best to plan from low point to low point.
