Too long ago for reclaiming PPI ?

Options
Hiya,
Clearly I have been living under a rock for the past few years but a phone call from Consumer Money Matters about reclaiming ppi last week made me wake up and smell the coffee. Having read the posts I think I will avoid Consumer Money Matters but would welcome any views on the following. I have just the one credit card which I got back in 1997 - I pay repayment cover on it each month but being so long ago my memories are hazy as to the circumstances in which it was sold. Because it was so long ago does anyone think I've got a chance of reclaiming ? I still use the card now - but 14 years worth of £5 a month payments is making me weep
Any views greatly appreciated.

    Hiya

Was this taken out with a bank?
And was the ppi mis sold to you for any reason?

It "may" be with a try, people have still been successful in making a reclaim on older accounts, but personally if mis sold why not give it a go yourself on the reclaiming, free with help from this site, follow the link below to the guidelines of reclaiming and post up for help if required from here.

there probably wont be any point of sale documentation from 1997. What this means is that when an adjudicator makes a decision on the case your verbal testimony may be highly significant. So make sure you an articulate convincingly how the policy was sold to you etc.

    Cheers
  • You will only be able to ask FOS to investigate a claim from that long ago if the provider was a member of one of the predecessor ombudsman schemes (which really means either the Banking or Building Societies' Ombudsman) or volunteers jurisdiction to FOS (which virtually never happens).

Bear in mind, too, that making a statement which you know is likely to be untrue or misleading in order to gain a financial advantage for yourself at the expense of somebody else is an offence under the Fraud Act.

both true an extent. Who sold you the credit card PPI? I will check to see if the fos has jurisdiction and let you know. Cheers
