    Regarding AA?

I took out personal cover , year before last, as my cars are always old.....22 years old in that instance....believing AA would not give the [cheaper] specific vehicle cover [as per their conditions, etc]...

Upon renewal last autumn, the cost had doubled [I had previously got cheap cover on an offer]....so I rang to cancel renewal.[it is automatic, be careful if you don't want it....£140 out of the bank is a big hit to re-cover].....got offered renewal at the same [offer] price I paid year before....AND.......got informed they would cover an old car on a 'specific' cover service...didn't have to be personal cover.

    getting desperate, they were.

However.....this year I have got cover through my insurer...[Co-op]....added onto my monthly premium payment [up from about £18 to £25]...this is full recovery, including European...not that I wanted that...no choice, it's in with the deal.

Worth checking, also, Britannia breakdown..[part of Co-op].....who don't seem so worried about old cars...
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

I have got cover through the co-op as part of my insurance.

I had to use it within 2 days of taking out my insurance as the clutch went, :o it was so quick they didn't even have me on the system!

Yet, the breakdown guy was out within 30 mins and took my car to the garage which I nominated.

It was all done really quickly and painlessly, I am vv impressed and would recommend them to anyone. :T
  • Next week I'm getting roadside assistance package from German ADAC. It costs only £85 per year (98 Euros).

    ADAC website

ADAC is the German equivalent of the RAC or the AA here in the UK.

However, the big difference is with ADAC, European cover is automatically included, and the ADAC plus membership gives you roadside assistance and onward travel as standard. Something thats extra with UK providers.

There is no age cut-off for vehicles on their policy, and they they provide full car repatriation job (EU-wide), irrespective of value, unlike the RAC who list in their terms and conditions that they will refer to a car's book value (Glasses/Parkers IIRC) and inform you that your beloved car has a book value of £2000, and that you'll be going home with a fistfull of notes instead.

And yes, they do speak English, although you have to ring a German number should you need assistance.
