I been told it is allowed. I put down £22 for joint cover but I must say I travel over 500 miles each week to go to work and got the full protection.
The cover you need is really down to you and your situation. If you only travel 2 miles you want need recovery as they tow you to the nearest garage anyway if they cant fix it.
So yeah it is allowed but how much is down to your needs.0 -
Yes, I also managed to claim £17 for full AA cover. As mentioned in the previous post, I suppose it depends on how important it is. I travel 85 miles a day to work and back, 5 days a week so it is vital.
My car is 18 years old, and on 154k miles.
Put the breakdown cover that you would need.0 -
Yep it is allowed, as is repairs/car maintenance. Your OR may query very high expenses though..Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Never heard of it being an issue as they don't credit check..Hardupandfedup wrote: »I travel about 40 miles a day to work, have not had breakdown cover as thought I couldnt get it for a old car, but afte breakig down the other day thought i would look in to it. Think of it from the OR's persepctive, would you be at risk of getting in to further debt if the car broke down if you DIDN'T have breakdown cover?Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Breakdown cover is fine if you travel 40 miles a day.
However, I had my repair/maintenance cost refused by the OR.
My fuel cost each month is currently £275 (and increasing daily!!). When the cost of MOT and road tax and car insurance were added to this, I was told that I couldn't claim any more. If I need a new tyre/or oil change/service etc (all of which I carry out myself, I just buy the parts) I have to take the money from something else - food etc. I was told it was because my car running costs were too high.
I can't use public transport as there is none at the times i start work. Been back to the OR twice on this and he won't budge.0 -
I also can not use public transport due to early starts and working some bank hols weekends etc. my petrol is quite high and getting higher too as prices go up but with out a car I would have to give up my job.
What sort of price would I be looking at for aa or rac etc to cover me in old car.0 -
With the AA, I get Homestart, Relay, and Roadside cover. Probably all that you would need, for £16.86.0

And don't forget to go through someone like Top Cash Back or Quidco and get a little moneyback

I have an old car, and had cover with the AA for breakdown/homestart etc and also repair cover.

It was about £24 a month, but I had a claim for a new clutch that would have cost £300+ within the first 3 months, so it has paid for its first year!
