Are single room extensions always cold.

I've got a single storey utility room extension with a pitched roof, very recently built so meets all the most up-to-date insulation requirements. It's unheated apart from housing the boiler, which gives off virtually no heat and is south-facing. It gets cold quickly in the winter if I keep the door to the house shut, but if I open it and let heat from the house trickle in, it does seem to retain the warmth ok.
However, it also gets hot very quickly in the summer, whereas the rest of the house stays very cool in summer - which I can only guess might be due to the comparatively large amount of roof exposed to the hot sun. I do wonder if it would be beneficial to over-spec roof insulation on single-storey extensions.0 -
could be lack of insulation
could be not extending the heating system into the new room so it will always feel colder than the rest of the house
could be poor build quality with draughts
my house is detached ......with 4 exposed walls and it's not cold.
if the insulation is installed in accordance with the regs and there is a heater in the room then there's nothing to make it any colder than the rest of the house.
the usual detached house is not the same as a single room with 3 exposed walls. (and most likely a flat roof).
all of your rooms will have two exposed walls max.Get some gorm.0
