How long does yogurt last after best before dates?

I go through phases of eating a lot of yogurt then none at all, hugely as once I start eating something I like to finish it so I buy the large Aldis/Lidls ones then dont use them!

I recently chucked out some(sealed) 4 month out of date yogurts, they werent bulging or anything(which one website said if it bulges it means its off) and since yogurt is essentially milk that has gone off anyway how bad can it be?

Im fairly "hardcore" about these things. I have scraped off the mould on yoghurt and eaten the rest, with no ill efects..I buy large cartons of natural for cooking, which I continue to use for at least a month after the "use by" date (and the carton will have been open throughout this time), just remove mould, as mentioned. Also I have found yoghurt freezes very well---worth a try perhaps?
  • I recently found some fruit corner yogurts, in the back of my fridge, that were eleven days after the use by date and they were fine. I wouldn't eat them if they were more than two weeks out of date.

not sure i would have eaten it any later though
Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T
  • Did a house clearance yesterday for a hoarder and found 50 yogurts from 2005 in the pantry ,they were Sainsbury's Raspberry yogurts and they smelt fine after opening one!
Not that I would touch one,we opened it for the Urgghh factor!
Anyhow, goodness knows what goes into them to preserve it.
  • Yoghurt can last for ages. If you have stored it properly and it looks and smells OK then it should be fine to eat.

On a related topic, I found this rather funny:

At Christmas local supermarket had a load reduced which I am still going through at the moment.

Taste fine to me and I am feeling the same as normal (not that means a great deal)

My colleague was amazed when I opened and ate a yoghurt on Friday (4th Feb), that was dated best before 22nd Jan. I then told her it had been in my lunch bag all week (ie, not refrigerated!), at which point she almost needed reviving!! I have eaten them 2 months out of date, and am still here to tell the tale. Not fermenting? Not mouldy? Then go for it!!!

there is no set amount of time. no set rules.
treat each out of date yoghurt on a individual basis.#

If you become ill though eating a out of date yoghurt it will be your own fault as well.
  • I have been known to eat a yoghurt over a month out of date. And I actively store cheese well ahead of time to MAKE SURE it is out of date before we eat it - it is better flavour and better texture.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

As yogurt goes off it gets progressively more sour, so you might find that it tastes sharper than normal. I've eaten yogurt that's been 4 - 6 weeks past its date and survived to tell the tale.
