Because I do not see a similar jump in price for parts for newer cars from the "expensive" manufacturers.

Yeah but that stuff is generally the kind of "oh sh** my car's just gone bang and it's going to cost me hundreds to fix" major components, which in my experience (touch wood) generally don't break in the first place. If Nissans really did rain Datsun cogs I think there would be a thriving aftermarket in rebuilt gearboxes :)

what like mercedes benz exhausts? these do break and need replacing and can't always be got from aftermarket source, most are main dealer parts.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
i've had a few cars & vans over the years, new & old, from ford granada's (old) & BMW Z3 (new) & to be honest, the old cars are made to last, like anything, old fords are really reliable & i have banger raced them & so strong, ( if happen to be in an accident) also i always got parts from scrap yards, obviously not breaks, so really cheap to maintaine, new cars have engine encased so have to go to dealer for parts, special garages to fix, but some folk love or can't live without a new car, i'm not bothered as long as they are reliable & get me from Ato B, i now have a transit, 3 years old after the old one 12 years old, bought when 7 & was really great & eventually had 2 go to scrap yard, but the electronic fob needs new battery so have to get new bloody key which is over £100, don't think so, will keep key i got & use the old fashioned way, my car has gone to daughter an old p reg rover that i bought for £100 6 years ago & still going strong, if you get an expensive car your going to pay the price, but my moral is, if you can afford the car you can afford the parts, lol

A 2007 Ford Focus is surely more likely to have expensive parts as it takes a bit of time for the cheaper pattern parts to be available.

I had a damaged windscreen on my 2004 Legacy, 6 months after I bought it new, no pattern parts avaiable and the Insurance had to buy one from Subaru, I think the sum of £750 was mentioned.

I would suspect that by shopping around then cheaper parts will be available, did the OP try to search for parts for say a 2006/7 Civic? And then compare them to the price of the same parts for the outgoing model. I think there would be a similar price premium on the 2006/7 Civic.

I reckon you could also do the same for the Pug 206 and 207.

In general the cheaper parts prices that everybody talks about are the servicing parts, they are a lot cheaper on my Ford than on the wifes Clio.
