hi there,
after seeing that the hong kong air fairs are only £261 return on the travel/holidays forum i was wondering if i was to go to hong kong for a long weekend and bought some electrical goods to bring back in my suitcase, what the rules and taxes may be?
i will look at importing 1 type of electrical item and maybe bring 3-5 over at once, then sell them once back in the uk.
the price in eglish pounds of the items is £250 (english money).
can anyone help on this topic please.
many thanks

wow hong kong for a long weekend....it takes a couples of days to get over the jet lag..good for you if you manage it though!!
regarding electrical items..would it really be that good idea...what would happen if they were to become faulty...would the items come with warranty.
if your only carrying a few i would assume you could declare they were for your own personal use...ie presents for family etc...
i going hong kong in a fortnight....what kind of electrical items you talking?0 -
i am from hong kong
and yes their electrical goods are good yet cheap...
if you are going, shop your electrical stuff from either broadway/ fortress (shops). they are the proper dealers for all the electrical goods, with local warranty (or intl'). there are plenty other shops out there too which sell e. goods, however price may not be as good since they see you as a tourist.
fortress/ broadway has a set price, and have their branches almost everywhere in HK. its where the locals get the stuff from!
feel free to pm me0 -
thanks for the imput guys,
if i was to declair the goods what taxes and dutys would i have to pay, as i would like to do things legal and then i have no comebacks and by the looks of things the profits are quite high as there is a big demand for the item i am going to purchase, but this demand will only last maybe 2-3 months so i need to strike whilst hte iron is hot as they say.:p0 -
c,mon mate share what the item is....
is it an xbox or someother game console?0 -
some other console
due for relise over there on the 17th
think its a good idea?0 -
I would think very carefully about the risk you are taking on this. I suspect that you may need an import licence to bring these into the country and, it you are tackled by HMRC at the port of entry, you may have these goods confiscated. I would seriously advise you to check on the HMRC website before entering into this venture.0

i will be looking into it, and i will make sure that what i may be doing is legal, like you stated i would not like to have these items confiscated for lack of information on my behalf, this is why i have posted this thread for advise and to make sure that this is above board0

HMRC may focus on these flights aswell.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

obviously a ps3 is what you are buying?0

i just heard on the radio that its been released in japan right now and for people hoping to get there hands on one have to beware as the power source in asia is different from the uk and previous ps games from the uk will not be compatible nor will uk dvds....despite that i do know hong kong use the same 3 pin plug as us so maybe the hong kong one wont blow up....so would you chip them to get them to work with uk game titles?0
