what are the rules for bringing electrical goods back from hong kong

hi there,
after seeing that the hong kong air fairs are only £261 return on the travel/holidays forum i was wondering if i was to go to hong kong for a long weekend and bought some electrical goods to bring back in my suitcase, what the rules and taxes may be?
i will look at importing 1 type of electrical item and maybe bring 3-5 over at once, then sell them once back in the uk.
the price in eglish pounds of the items is £250 (english money).

can anyone help on this topic please.

many thanks

You can't bring back goods worth more than £140 without being subject to import duty AFAIK.

thanks for that, is there anyone who knows what types of duty and taxes i might have to pay.
  • You can look up the applicable duty on HMRC website, its a very long list.

You will have to pay vat aswell i believe. Once these are added on you might find your perceived profit is gone.
