Would you believe it, the bit that we didn't consume is still rolling around the garden 9 months later. It's like a bit of polystyrene. I noticed one in the neighbour's garden too. Looks like there could be more to come in June/July....:)0 -

I found two that had grown together, then spored, dessicated and shrunk and shrivelled. At first I thought I had found a scrotum in the field and was embarrassingly delighted...then when I picked it up all became clear. I still have it, on my kitchen window sill.:D0 -

I love the bit where she says, "I was delighted to find a scrotum", now I don't know about you, but some alarm bells do start ringing. There is a strict no real world contact rule on MSE and I may be starting to see the merits of such a rule.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

Surely that's real world contact......:p
No, seriously, they keep reasonably well, so if we get another, a slice is yours. They're OK, but I think one tires of them quite quickly, unlike eggs.0 -
I don't know who's the dimmest now - the chooks for not laying in their comfy nest box, or me for not checking the weirdest places... but today on top of the coop (rabbit-hutch style with wire roof, inside a shed) I found 26 eggs.
I've no idea how they got up there - it's about head height and involves chicken gymnastics to get there... so the 'old' ex-batts obviously have a lot of life left in them. We'd been getting 4 eggs a day from 7 hens, which I thought was quite good, but they're obviously producing even more ( I tested the eggs by floating them & most were really fresh.)0
