energy (electric) saving

Hi folks. Was doin a test the other day, dont ask me why, but i am glad i did. When i put the kettle on for a drink (as you do), i thought about how long it takes to turn itself off once it starts to boil. i timed it. 9 seconds. 'SO' i hear you ask.well i probably boil my kettle about 4 times a day. i am sure for many people it would be more than 4 times a day. but just using 4 as a minimum, thats 36 seconds a day. if i did the same 365 days of the year, that amounts to about 4 hrs of electric wasted in 1 year. You may have guessed that i now stand by my kettle and turn it off as soon as it starts to boil. But just think about this for a second. How many households are there in the UK ? I believe that its somewhere in the region of 22.5 million. Yes, you can see where i am going with this now. If every household only boiled their kettle 4 times a day, 365 days of the year, and left it to turn itself off, thats a staggering 90 million hrs of wasted electric ! Obviously, some people do boil their kettle more than 4 times a day, so imagine the true figure ! That said, if everyone in every household in the UK stood by the kettle and turned it off as it started boiling, thats 90 million hrs of electric SAVED ! I wonder if the energy companies would lower the price of electric ! I think so. Take action now and make it happen. Hey ! If nothing else, it will save you some dosh.
