is this puppy poo normal?

our 12 week old cav pup is a little darling, but when she poo's outside she kinda does a few droplets (no bigger than half your little finger), then she walks a few spaces on (still in her 'pooing position), couple more droplets, wanders again (Still squatting), then several drops to finish with, is this normal?

Its quite soft in texture, sandy/light curry coloured and stinks to high heaven :(

Never had a dog before and wondered if her poo's are normal?

Thanks in advance

If it stinks and is soft then it will be down to what she is fed on.

The fact that she doesn't stay in one place to do it is down to her.
A dog with a behaviour problem needs help not punishment.
  • My one year old labrador is the same!! He's never been really "solid" and it's always been a fairly golden colour but he doesn't seem to be bothered by it! Like yours, he tends to poo in several places - does a bit, moves around, does a bit more, moves around............it's just the way they are sometimes!!

The only time I ever really worry is when it becomes more of a liquid than anything substantial - then I just put him on chicken and rice for a day or so and he's fine again. Otherwise, he has mainly dried food, with the occasional half tin of wet for variation.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks people

Alll she has is dry food (pedigree puppy complete - i think), bought a big bag but will change it once its run down (excuse the pun), has the occasional white choc doggy treat, was told if her poo is too soft, she's havin too much fluid, and if its solid and she strains, not wet enough, is this right?

Also, she was sometimes droping one of 2 drops of blood from her bum once she'd finished her business, couple of drops on the floor while still in her squat pose, but this has stopped recently

Can't really say about the poo, but if you're concerned it's worth getting her checked out.

I just wanted to say that if you change her food, do it gradually. I believe you shouldn't just change from one to another. Start by mixing a bit of the new food in with what she's used to (maybe about 1/3), then gradually increase it over about a week or so till she's just getting the new food.

My friend has a cav and we walk together. He squats and walks around while doing it so guessing it is a breed trait. She just wanders around behind him with a bag and he stores it up over the walk and goes several times. Yes, he'll get a few droplets out and try some more and then some more and then some more - even if nothing is coming out. I thought it was because he has long fur round his bottom and maybe it was touching - but maybe not. Always gives us something to laugh about, I am supprised he 'goes' in front of us anymore as he gives us the filthiest look we we laugh, LOL.

    Enjoy your new pup.
  • My pup had exactly the same from 8 weeks of age and was eventually diagnosed with Giardia which is easily treated. Don't just assume it's down to the food. The blood is a real giveaway.....

Get the pup tested because it is easily transmitted to humans and can be very very serious.

My cavvie is over a year old and still spreads his poo all over the flippin place! :rotfl: So don't worry about that.

He had a lot of upset tummies when he was little, his tummy was so sensitive and he seemed to have the runs most of the time, luckily that has passed now. We took him to the vets the first few times but once we realised he just had a very sensitive stomach, we just bought some prokolin paste (he'd already had some before) from the vets and gave him that and it worked fine.

I would suggest going to the vets to get him checked out if this isn't normal for him or if you haven't had it checked before now just for piece of mind. :) x

Our JR pup would only poo up a tree  He grew out of it though.

I wouldn't worry too much about the stop start poo-ing but would get the blood checked out if it starts again.

My dog hides her bum in bushes to have a wee. She is a lady after all. :rotfl:
