There is another thread about upvc costs, though reading that I thought I’d start a fresh thread as suggested by another MSEr. So I am looking at the following.
3 x white upvc doors
2 x doors with small window above and window in the door (typically front and back door)
1 x small door with no windows.

6 x windows, tilt and turn except the bay window and one other window as that is at the back of the house and most likely the point of entry for an intruder (all pilkington glass):
1 Typical bay window (not tilt & turn)
2 windows – 1140mm x 1780mm
1 window – 1120mm x 1180mm
1 window – 960mm x 1780mm (privacy glass)
1 window – 920mm x 1480mm
They're pretty big windows, and one of my doors is also larger than average.

All white handles, hopefully chrome on the door handles (forgot to ask about that, along with the letter box). Another thing I was thinking of asking before I get the doors, is if they would fit a cat flap. I don’t own a cat at the moment but I think I’d like one when I eventually get moved in! lol :)
The chap that came out was very nice, I’ve dealt with the company when they have supplied me 3 windows in the past, which my builder has fitted (these were more complex jobs than just replacing like for like). I thought it would be best to get a specialist in to replace the windows as they will be much more used to the work. They are a local company, rather than a nationwide advertiser etc, which I would prefer to pass business onto.
Rough quote off the top of his head was £3500, but they’re going to get back to me and confirm.
Just thought I’d ask for people’s opinions and will pop back with the final quote price too!

Thanks Ormus. Being in the middleish is a good start then I guess.

I'm having other quotes this week, One is recommended by my mate who has worked with him and seen his work a lot of times (he does plastering for him) and apparently he's a complete perfectionist (coming from my mate - that's a really good compliment). So we will see what he says.

    Any other opinions all welcomed!

Ok, so I'm back with 2 (almost) like for like quotes:

    Quote 1
Apparently their windows are so well made they are manufactured to energy efficient C, but come out energy efficient B. I think they use profile 22 as the stickers say that on the windows they have supplied me in the past. Local company. 10 years of being setup with own factory, though longer experience. They seem really nice and friendly.

    Quote 2
Windows are energy efficient C - manufactured with duraflex.
Recommendation through friend. I know of the guy as he mixes in my circles of friends. Recommendation not through friendship, though down to the quality of his work. My best mate does plastering work on many of the same jobs and says his finish is literally perfection - really highly rated. 18 years of experience. It's nice to know of someone personally.

Difference between them is quote 2 are £130 more. Though I think quote 2 would probably price match quote 1 for the sake of the job. Though it's not so much the money that's my concern really (obviously it would be nice to go with the cheapest).

I can't decide who to select!! I'm happy with both of them and I will (very stupidly) feel terrible letting either one of them know I have selected the other company. Silly I know, but I like them both! I want to make sure I get the best quality really.

    Hmmm. Any help / suggestions?

Thanks A6! I don't know about all this profile 22 and duraflex stuff. It's just something the second chap that quoted mentioned when he looked at the windows already in my house. He then said he uses the duraflex stuff.

It seems to get really technical all this window buying doesn't it?! : /

I have used company number one before, though just for supplying a couple of windows to my builder who then fitted them. The reason for this, was because the windows were not replacements, they were totally different dimensions. The other guy however is supposed to be REALLY great. My mate also has very high standards, so I know the source is legit.

Rather than getting my builder to fit a load of windows, I thought I'd get someone that just specialises in them really. I'm sure it will be more cheaper and efficient. I must admit I like the fact they are intially cheaper, and if this profile stuff is better then they might be worth a shot? I also like how they have their own factory, so if one goes wrong they can easily fix me up with another etc.

Should I ask them if it's fully sculpted? Is this the right phrase when asking? Is there anything else I could/should also ask?

I've found it relatively easy in telling people who has the job in the past, though this time I don't want to let people down as they've all been nice / good in their approach.

I REALLY appreciate your help A6. Keep it coming if ya have any more words of wisdom!

going by what you've said i'd go for number 2 - sounds like you've had a great recommrndation and backed up by a friend. you could ask him to price match.

    Thanks latecomer!

ARRRRGHH! lol. I thought I'd made my mind up with the other company, as they have a factory, they're intitially cheaper, and if this profile 22 stuff is better than duraflex, then the only thing I'd need to worry about is the finish. I know I say 'only' there as that plays a massive part. Though if I'm unhappy I can just ask them to fix anything / put it right.

    :S lol
