charges from bank

Hi Im hoping someone may be able to offer some advice for my mum and dad they unknowingly went over there overdraft, my mum tried to cancel the direct debits but didnt do it in time and the bank paid them even though there wasnt the money in the bank account to pay them.
The bank has now charged my mum and dad £120 in charges.
Seems really unfair to me, is there anything thay can do apart from making sure there is money in there in the first place.
They used to be really bad with money but THE past few years they have really turned a corner now they are upset they are heading the same way again.

Not really much they can do about what has happened. They could try speaking to the bank if it was their first time they've incurred such charges in recent years, but £120 is a lot more than one charge and the banks often only refund the first; still, better than nothing I suppose.
I would normally suggest they keep a better handle on their account, but in this case you say recently they have been, so I'm sure that advice isn't needed.
Perhaps if they have been as good as you say, they could ask for an authorised overdraft facility. They don't have to use it ... but it's good to have for the odd mistake or emergency
