I am thinking about buying the new Xbox and Kinect(?) for my hubs, but as a surprise. I have absolutely no idea what I am buying so can anyone out there advise me on what to ask for, because without your advice I would be a salespersons dream and they could sell me any old tat and I wouldnt be any the wiser. He hasnt got an xbox or anything so I would have to buy the lot together, so am hoping I might get a good deal now the christmas rush is over.
I dont mind buying online if I get a good deal. I did see one package at Tescos locally for £250 for the set up but think it was 3g and now I understand there is a 4g as well, so whats the difference? The tesco one had a free game I think, but not sure exactly as I was copping a quick look while hubs was there.
I am sure you guys can help me out. It will help to make an old man very happy lol x

Hello babyblooz
As you haven't had any replies and you're asking for advice, I'll move your thread to the 'Techie Stuff' board where the experts will see it.;)
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.

Don't buy in-store, the sales people will fleece you and confuse you into buying things you don't need.
Try Amazon
Select
* Xbox 360 Console (4GB Hard Drive) with Kinect Sensor and Kinect Adventures
and
* Motion Sports - Kinect Compatible (Xbox 360)
You will get the Xbox 360, Kinect, and two Kinect games for £245. Also buy a HDMI cable (you can get them for a couple of pounds) for better image quality.
The Xbox is the 4G version - it plays games exactly the same as the 250GB version, the main difference is that it doesn't have a hard drive like the 250. But you can buy a seperate 250GB hard drive yourself at a later date for around £30 if you need one.poppy100 -
DO NOT BUY THE 4GB VERSION. It will severely restrict how many game patches, demos, downloadable content he can save. Get the 250GB slim version.0

Hmm, two different opinions, not sure which one to go with now, any other opinions on which version is the best???:hello:  please play nicely children !0

The original Xbox 360 Core and Arcade models came with no storage and 0.5Gb of storage respectively, and plenty of people still own them. 4Gb is plenty to be getting started with. If and when you run out of space, you can buy a separate 250GB hard drive fairly cheaply.DO NOT BUY THE 4GB VERSION. It will severely restrict how many game patches, demos, downloadable content he can save. Get the 250GB slim version.
If you want to go straight for the 250GB option, then it will cost you £320 for the above deal, compared to £245 for the 4G version. Your choice, depends how much you want to spend..poppy100 -
The main problem I see with the 4gb on is there isn't enough space to copy games to it to reduce load times and drive noise from the disc spinning.
esp since the xbox has reputation for scratching discs when moved...0 -
Does he want one?!!

Get the slim with 250gb hard drive you can then have plenty of space for demos, game saves, extras and even copying discs so that they can run from hd (not illegal copies I mean)0

Babyblooz, I'm 45, I play the xbox every evening.
I do this because its connected to the internet (xbox live) and the gameplay is excellent fun and I have lots of online friends.
I would not be able to do this without a hard drive, so if your buying a new system then go for a hard drive and a subscription to xbox live.
TBH I'd forget the kinect, (have you got 8 foot of room free to play in?) as there are far too few games.
GEt setup with a decent box & an online subscription first.
Is he into motor racing? look for some of the racing games if so.0
