I know I have done this myself but I cannot undo it.

When I plug in my Ipod Touch to my PC running Windows XP (5 years old) it opens a little window asking how to open the device I have just connected. I usually ignore that and Itunes opens fine.
It looks like my PC cannot recognise it has an Ipod connected but at least it used to know I had connected it.

Today I messed up as I had a look at that little window to see if I could get it to close automatically and I must have clicked something on it because when I connect Ipod now Itunes does not automatically open and the PC does not know it has the Ipod connected.

Also in Itunes I cannot see the Ipod (I ran diagnistic and it shows the error).

My Ipod is charged so thats not the problem but I cannot even turn the Ipod on.

So tried to restore to an earlier date on PC but that does not work cannot restore no matter how far back I go.

Can anyone help?

Many many thanks in advance.

I'd say, if the iPod doesn't turn on that there's a mechanical problem with the iPod itself.

If it still functioned ok then there might be some sense in looking at the PC.

The only advice I can give you is perhaps ask a friend who has a working iPod to try it in their computer (but that risks looking their itunes library I *think* (unless they create another user on the PC and try it as that user)).

Have you tried to reboot/reset the iPod, or letting the battery run out completely?

I would try to uninstall the Itunes on your PC, also delete the folder (Itunes? Apple?) which contained the Itunes files just in case - although I don't mean any music etc that you want to keep that are on your PC (may need to move them). Then reinstall

You may have to do a reset on the ipod. Some info here maybe not for your model, but you get the idea.
