Not as mad as it sounds!
I have three adopted stray cats and buy the Tesco six packs of tins for them.
But lately in my local garage they have a HUGE tin of dogfood on offer for just over £1.
Was just wondering would I be crazy to try it for them?? Don'twnat to uoset the poor things - but culd always use for the birds I suppose if they didn't like it.

Please don't feed your cats dog food. Cats have particular nutritional needs including Taurine which is not present in dog food. A lack of taurine can lead to blindness and/or heart problems.
I know you are trying to control your feed bills but in the long run you could end up with expensive vet bills instead.
(And well done you for taking on strays :T)Meow!
(Not really a newbie, just wanted to share the rescue with you )

Thanks thought there might be something - thats why I've held off - plus the fact they're so fussy for certain flavours probably wouldn't touch it anyway!!
I know we'd go short before cutting back on their food! But they do give lots of companionship back.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -
Totally agree, don't feed your cats with dog food. If you are wanting to save money, you will find that it's far cheaper to feed your cats a good quality dried cat food (with plenty of water provided) that it will work out cheaper than tinned food where you're paying for water

Cats only really eat meat, they are obligate carnivores, whereas dogs can eat a much more varied diet, they can digest all sorts of stuff cats can't. Also like CGR says they need extra nutrients that dogs don't need.0

Thanks folks - don't worry - i have no intention of harming by jittys!
We feed them a selection fo tinned adn dried food (with water). One stray would only eat chicken Whisters but since he sadly passed on we have downgraded the others to Tesco Classic which at least gets eaten - though they'd probably prefer better!!Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -
