I think I'm being investigated, any help???

I wondered if anybody could give me some information as I'm having a panic!
My ex moved in last year initially as a friend but we ended up getting together (I know that sounds suspect but honestly it is the truth), we made a joint tax credits claim and all was fine, we split up a few weeks ago and I cancelled our claim and he moved out and applied for JSA - except he used my address as a postal address(!)
He told me yesterday that his JSA claim and my single tax credits claim are on hold until they come and visit me. I don't know who is coming to visit me and what they are going to ask - I have nothing to hide but I don't know if they are investigating me or him or both...can anybody enlighten me??
Many thanks

Sounds like you've done everything above board. It's most likely because he's using yours as a postal address. They will want to make sure you're not making fraudulent claims. Why is he using your address for correspondence?I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0

Sounds highly suspicious to me - I think the OP will be thoroughly investigated, possibly including the period when the ex moved in 'as a friend'.0

It wasn't particularly clear but the OP had already said they'd made a joint tax credit claim after he moved in so I'd assumed they'd done the right thing.I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0

Thank you for your reply - like a muppet I said he could and I'd leave it in the porch for him to pick up, I didn't even think about him applying for benefits and it affecting me. He is sleeping on a mates sofa apparently so didn't want to change address on everything until he knew where he would be living.
I just wish I knew who is coming to see me and if anyone can tell me how long it will take to sort this mess out...DMP'ing it...0 -

Hiya, I'm aware it sounds suspicious, I'm sure they are going to ask about it and I don't know how it will go down but I can't do anything about it. Basically, he liked me more than I liked him but things changed over time so decided to 'get together' and took a risk. I did everything by the book, I was not prepared to risk lying to them as it would be me getting in trouble and I have a child and my house to think of - I made joint claim when I should have done and as it turns out it was it was a complete waste of time and he's not at all who I thought and even now he's gone he's causing me stress - I'm annoyed at myself for being such a soft flippin touch!DMP'ing it...0 -
sorry...went on a bit of a rant then, wasn't snapping at your comment, just at myself! feel better now though : )DMP'ing it...0

I'm not surprised they're investigating but it sounds like you've done everything you need to so I wouldn't worry about it. They'll be coming around to check that there's no evidence of him living with you. Of course it'd have been easier if he had used the address he is now living at or a relative but that's not your fault.
Have you had any direct correspondance with the HMRC/DWP with regards to a visit? If you've not heard from them yourself it may be worth contacting them and letting them know from your side that you are aware that your ex is using your address to claim benefits as a single person but that he is definitely no longer living with you.0 -
Nothing to worry about here, it will probably be an inspector who will come out to visit to see if he is still living with you. Tell them no and tell them where he is living now - no need to go into all the history - its the here and now they will be interested in due to his new claim. Its really nothing to do with you and tell the ex to use someone elses address from now on.0

OP maybe im missing something here but just how exactly does your ex know that someone will be coming out to see YOU ?
Theres no way that any of the benefit depts or even HMRC will discuss your single claim with him !
Did you and he part on bad terms ? Could he be telling you that someone is coming out to see you about your benefits just to scare or worry you ?The loopy one has gone :j0 -

I really do hope he's not being nasty - we didn't part well but not on nasty terms (although I did kick him out when he was jobless and potless so its possible)
When I phoned Tax Credits to stop the joint and start a single claim they asked if I could ask ex to get in touch with them too as it was a joint claim and they need to hear from both parties - I asked ex if he would write or phone them and so I presume he did and that's when they told him? either that or when he made his appn for JSA the job centre told him (which seems more likely I suppose)
I tried to get the phone number from him of who/where he spoke to so I could contact them but he was cagey about it and didn't seem to know, I work full time and don't want them thinking I'm dodging them - he told me it was tax credits so I spoke to them and they said they don't do that and it was prob DWP. On searchng their website I can't see who to phone or how these things work.
He told me all this 6:30 Friday night so I can't do anything now till monday...it's the unknown that is worrying me!
I apologise, first I've ranted and now I've rambled!!DMP'ing it...0
