Tax years and benefit years are different.

For tax years it is NI paid in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010.

Right - this may be the cause - she started work with the company in September 08 - which was 2 1/2 years ago in "real terms" - but not 2 full tax years ago !!
    Any comments/advice ?

Yes - but there was a break of around 4 months - she had been made redundant previously - and was allowed to claim Jobseekers then - presumably her NI contributions were paid during this period by DWP ?
To add to our woes - The administrators are refusing to pay any redundancy to any ex-workers !!!

Her NICs would have been paid whilst she claimed JSA but they only count towards her pension, not for another JSA claim.

What do you mean by 'ex-workers'?
If your wife has been made redundant by the company (rather than been fired or quit) then she'll be entitled to redunda ncy pay. As I've posted above, if the administrators will not pay redundancy she can apply to the N.I. Fund.

There are different classes of N.I. contributions. They do not all count towards state benefits. I don't know which class is paid by the DWP when claiming JSA.

My wife had received a rejection letter from DWP on Saturday but phoned them this morning to cancel her booked appointment to sign on this afternoon - only to be told "YOU ARE TO RECEIVE JS, AND NEED TO SIGN ON"
The letter had said "you are not entitled to JS from 24 Jan" !!
They have supposedly written again to tell her

    The system is a shambles

I hardly think what you say means the system is a shambles.

If the claim is to continue then she must sign on - if she doesnt they will close the claim. Pretty easy to understand.

She was sent a letter telling her that her claim from 24 Jan had been rejected - then on phoning to cancel her appointment to sign on this afternoon - she is told that yes she still needs to sign on - since her claim was not rejected (not that it WAS sucessful though - the person that my wife spoke to could not say that)
What is that if not a shambles ?
