Such thing as JSA run-on? waiting for employment start date

I have been claiming JSA for about 4 weeks now, i dont want to lie to them but i have been offered a job subject to checks.
References have come back fine, im just waiting for a POVA first check to come through which usually takes about 10 days. I wont get paid for a month when i start employment.

I was wondering whether im still allowed to claim up until my first day of employment or up until i get paid from my employer or anything to tide us over until i get paid?

Many thanks
Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.

  • I do think that you have to be claiming JSA for 26 weeks (?) before you're entitled to the run on,
However, I may be wrong and it would probably be best for you to double check this with the Jobcentre.

I wish you luck in your new job, wish it was me!

You can continue to claim until you start work but must still look for full time employment for all you know the checks may come back negatively causing you to spend months appealing the inaccuracy of it. You may also get a much better offer elsewhere.

thanks :) it just takes ages for these checks. 2 months for a CRB but i can start provisionally on a POVA first check.

Just a bit worried about how were going to cope for a month with no money!

JSA is paid 2 weeks in arrears if I recall correctly, so you will get one last payment when you sign off, don't know if that will help tide you over a bit.
