Hi all, can anyone advise us? we'd like to visit friends for a couple of day's W/C 28.03.11, no idea what the cheapest return for 2 adults from Birmingham to Edinburgh is, either bus / rail / fly.
Our dates are flexible that week, does it matter what day of the week we travel / return?

Ryanair may be worth a look - they are offering seats at £6 one way inclusive of taxes and no fee for online check in fee for travel during March, but must book by midnight Monday.
They don't fly Birmingham-Edinburgh, but might be able to go via Dublin or elsewhere if available.
It's certainly an option, especially if you are travelling light.
There is a very good article on here somewhere about exploiting Ryanair and avoidijng paying charges - worth a look if you haven't seen it.Jan: Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel (instant win); Football tickets; Magazine subscription (x5); £70 Sports Direct vouchers; ESPN Goals subscription; £10 Amazon voucher.

Also worth looking at Megabus.com - they sell tickets on certain Virgin trains services at silly prices (I found £6 one way on 21/03). Don't seem to be available after 21/03 though - it may simply be too early too book.Jan: Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel (instant win); Football tickets; Magazine subscription (x5); £70 Sports Direct vouchers; ESPN Goals subscription; £10 Amazon voucher.

Only way to do this is to go and search. Flybe fly direct, go on Virgin or Crosscountry train website and check ticket prices.
It will depend when you travel, no one day is better in advance but more popular times and days will go first.0 -
Thanks for all the adviceflyingscotno1 wrote: »Only way to do this is to go and search. Flybe fly direct, go on Virgin or Crosscountry train website and check ticket prices
Flying or train, prices for 2 adults return are looking around £200.00, seldom use public transport, so I've no idea about split ticketing, is it worth asking in the rail travel thread?0 -

Look at two singles rather than a return. Out on 28th at 1103 returning 31st at midday comes out at under £75 a head.0 -
Hi,
keep your eye on Megabus, can't search your dates today as can only search so far ahead, but if you had been going on these dates,,,,,
You searched for trips leaving Birmingham, New St Station on Monday 14 March 2011 to Edinburgh, Waverley for 2 passengers
Departs 06:19 Birmingham, New St Station
Arrives 10:21 Edinburgh, Waverley
4hrs 2mins
2 seats = £12.00
Thursday 17 March 2011
Departs 18:52 Edinburgh, Waverley
Arrives 22:55 Birmingham, New St Station
4hrs 3mins
2 seats = £10.00
Bit of an early start going out and late return home, but cheap.0
