A MOTORIST drove for 20 miles on his way home from work to find a dog stuck to the grille of his car.
The man from Silverdale, who did not want to be named, found the Jack Russell mongrel stuck in the front grille of his Honda Civic car.
He had been driving home to Tregew Place yesterday morning when he hit something which he thought was a fox on the A50 outside Uttoxeter.
But when the driver arrived home he heard a barking noise and got out of his car to discover the mongrel attached to his grille.

Firefighters from Newcastle fire station were called to the man's home where they managed to free the dog by cutting out the grille.
Fire crews then called in police who arranged for the dog to be taken to a vet for treatment.
Crew manager Martin Joughin, from Newcastle fire station, said: "A man who works in Rocester had finished work and was on his way home when he hit what he thought was a fox or a rabbit.
"When he arrived home in Silverdale, he heard barking and saw there was a dog in the front grille of his car. He had driven all the way back along the A50 with the dog like that.
"We cut the grille off to get to the dog.
"He was obviously very scared and cold but we wrapped him up and kept him on the fire appliance until the police arrived."
Firefighters were called out to the man's home in Tregew Place just before 6.30am yesterday and the police attended shortly afterwards.
The dog was taken to Rogers, Brock and Barker veterinary surgeons, in Longton.
Staff attended to the dog and managed to trace its owner, who lives in Uttoxeter.
The dog was collected by its owner, who has not been named, yesterday afternoon and taken to the Glenthorne veterinary practice in Uttoxeter.

Hands up who giggled then? I did... :D

glad it had a happy ending for the dog if not the grill

    (giggled too)
  • Surely if you hit something head on you would of seen it as you were about to hit it?

Gotta admit that I didn't giggle. :( Frankly, had I been driving a car that suffered such an impact I would have made it a priority to stop ASAP and check for the possibility that whatever I had hit needed treatment and also to check for damage to the vehicle. I'd like to think that I could distinguish the difference between hitting a rabbit or hitting a fox or small dog.

Sorry, I really don't want to be a killjoy on the thread and can sort of see the mildly amusing side of it but if I were that driver I would have investigated immediately and I would suffer sleepless nights if I thought that my ignoring the initial impact contributed to the animals death. Seeing a dog stuck to my radiator grille would be my worst nightmare!

Bah, he knew what he'd hit.... But he thought he'd left it behind in the road.

I hit a badger at 11:30pm, it was pitch black on a country road and I knew what i'd hit despite having less than half a second to see it run out in front of my car.
