Might be easier if you could narrow the area, there are hundreds if not thousands of hotels and B&Bs in and around central London.
Plenty of budget hotels in Bloomsbury, WC1.
Lots of cheaper hotels and B&Bs in and around Praed Street, Paddington.
Cheaper still is Earls Court.
Google Maps is as good a way to search as any - lots of links to hotel websites.0 -
The Travelodge opening at Ealing has £39.50 family rooms for a lot of weekdays in August and as is only opening in March should be fairly new. It is near the Ealing Broadway tube so you could get the tube to say South kensington for the Museums direct and takes about 25 mins approx. Few stop further alon on the same line to Westminster for Big Ben, House Of Parliament. Marylebone TL has similar priced rooms during some weekdays in August and beside the tube/train station and not a bad location for getting around London. Both Tl's have a cafe bar and you can book an all you can eat buffet breakast at £6.65 online and for each adult up to 2 kids eat for free. Southwark also has some good prices for the end of Aug/ beginning Sept and is 10 mins walk from there to the Eye and the Embankment plus has good transport links.
You could try the 2nights for 1 holiday inn link for your proposed dates. You would need to book in batches of 2 nights if booking more than 2 nights to get the rates.

Although I don't have a particular place to recommend, looking for budget places in Bloomsbury is a good idea, as they're very central and very cheap. Either that or look at staying in Uni Halls of Residence which are made available as budget hotels in August. We usually find them on TubeHotels.com0
