Perhaps they are just claiming JSA.
If they are living with at home (or with close relatives), then they can't claim Local Housing Allowance. If they live with a partner, their partner's income will be taken into account and may rule them out of LHA.
If they are in rented property, perhaps they will be tempted to get their rent paid via benefits too, because they are over optimistic that they won't get caught and that if they do, they will just get a slap on the wrist.
The reality is that it is pot-luck if they get caught and they may very well be prosecuted, ruling them out of getting good employment because most employers are reluctant to employ thieves and fraudsters due to their lack of integrity.0 -

Most of us, if any, are not benefit fraud investigators so the advice can never been 100% accurate or even close to that. If there is no impropriety on your uni mates' actions then the investigations won't result in action.
You have demonstrated enough concern to feel the need to post on here for advice and that speaks volumes. Your duty in the matter is nothing more than to raise concern to the relevant authorities. Don't try to second guess outcomes because you don't have all the facts and neither do we.
The phrases "I don't dob" or "The system should police itself" are just cop-outs to avoid having to make a difficult decision that really shouldn't be that difficult. These particular people could be cheating the system (and therefore every tax payer by default) out of hundreds perhaps thousands of pounds. The system relies on people doing the right thing otherwise you actually become complicit in their dishonesty without actually getting any of the financial rewards.0
