    just found this:

    Holy smoke

Problem: The slow cooker smokes when you plug it in and turn it on.
    Reasons:
    • Manufacturing oil on the heating element or metal housing.
    • Spilled food on the heating element or metal housing.
    Solutions:
    • Manufacturing oils used in production to protect metal components may cause slight smoking and/or a burning smell the first few times you use your slow cooker. The problem will dissipate after a couple of uses.
Fingers crossed no more smoke so far!

Indeed - read the instructions, most elements have a slight oil over them for storage/transport, and they advise to run in for about 10 minutes before using to burn them off.

I've read through can't see anything but as it's stopped I thinnk this was the reason.

It'll be fine and it is normal for new stuff like this to smoke a little.. breadmakers, fryers, microwaves etc all do it.

Couple of uses and it won't smoke or smell any more

  • I would keep an eye on it over next few months just in case, if faulty it should be replaced. In the meantime enjoy it.
